Midlands Series Round 1 2008

Well, the first round of the midlands series was due to begin and I was feeling nervous. This is my first ever summer series and I was really unsure of what to expect. It had seemed to come round so quick, it didn't seem that long ago i was thinking I had ages until the first round!!

Having previously won the Hamsterley winter series overall, I was feeling good, and especially with the first round being on my home turf - Bringewood! However, I didn't know who I was competing against and felt totally unprepared.

On the practice day I walked the course with my friends Lisa, Emma and their partners and a few of their friends. I began to feel more relaxed as the course was almost exactly the same as what i had been practicing on in weekends prior! I shortly got on the bike and went of do do some runs with Kerry Wrigglesworth and to try and get my lines right.

Come race day and my relaxing morning of watching the footy whilst eating my breakfast at 7:30am was shortly disrupted when I received a phone call from Lisa saying she was on her way to pick me up!! 'I'll be there in half hour!' - whoops!

Well race day was something else - the atmosphere was so cool! My practice runs went well! But as I came up to do my second practice run - I heard my friend Emma had broken her collarbone! I was shocked, and I flew down the track to go see her! I think that if they had timed that run i would have been the fastest of the day!! She was ok though but was taken to hospital to get it x-rayed.

When I came to my race run, my heart was pounding but mind totally focused. In my run I felt like a bullet out of a gun and caught two riders up!! I was really chuffed with my time of 3:03.

The second run didn't go as well and was 2 seconds slower however, still a good time!! Being on the podium again felt amazing. Thats now 3 podiums I have gained in 4 races - not bad ey!
