World Cup #2 Fort William, Scotland

This track is probably the most enjoyable course to ride on the World Cup circuit and although is probably the hardest one to race – I definitely enjoy practice and going fast! It was awesome to be joined with my sponsors Trek for this race and they had been so supportive throughout the weekend. Making sure that my bike was prepped after each run, coming up with the turbo prior to the race and ensuring I was eating well. It definitely took a lot of pressure off me, was able top focus on just the riding and I felt more relaxed going into the race.
Practice went well for me; the Session felt absolutely amazing here with it being so light, I noticed the difference at the bottom and Fox had done an awesome job with my suspension. I only did 3 runs and felt really under practiced but it’s never good to do a full run here as the track is so tiring. The new changes on the course were much faster and better in my opinion – certainly a lot more enjoyable to ride.
Qualifying was pretty nerve racking, I made a major mistake up top which then found it hard to get my concentration back for the rest of the run. I finished in 16th place. I walked the track after qualifying and wrote down all the lines which I was taking and tried to learn my lines so I knew exactly where I was going.
Come race day, I’ve never felt so focused and done a practice run with Tracy Moseley so I had an idea of what I needed to do for the race. I warmed up properly and went through all the lines I was going to be doing – it’s a long course so there’s much to learn here.
The race went well for me, I was really focused and hitting all my lines, I made one or two mistakes which cost me a bit of time and came down in 14th place with the fastest speed trap too (which only 10 elite men best that speed!). I was happy with the result but I knew I could have got a top 10 there. It was wicked having the support from the crowd so thanks to everyone who cheered and supported me. I’m looking forward to next year when I will come back fitter and stronger than ever, a top 10 will definitely be on.
