Bromont World Cup
After Mont-Saint-Anne, I went Go-Karting! It was so cool! I had never done it before but I’m hooked! Don’t worry I’m not leaving downhill for it!! I’ll keep as a hobby instead. Much cheaper.
I kept watching replays back from last year’s World Cup event on freecaster.tv. I tried to see Sam Hill’s lines but as I’ve never been before, I couldn’t work out where on the track these lines were!! I walked the track but it looked so different from the video footage!
Practice was really bad I have to say! I loved the top section though, but the technical sections were pretty gnarly! Nothing like I had ever ridden before! I wasn’t finding it difficult, I could ride everything, but I struggled to find a rhythm that meant I could race it. I couldn’t get the sections to flow and looking back I don’t think that I paid enough attention to the major tech section. I should have watched the riders come down and assessed, but I couldn’t make myself stop. I didn’t want to waste valuable riding time.
Inevitably, qualifying came round and I didn’t do as well as I could. I had the top section awesome, putting my first split time in 14th place. But I made a small mistake on the tech section costing me about 10 seconds. It wasn’t a crash but I came off the bike and my hands were covered in crappy mud, so it took me a while to get back on the bike and back up to speed. My second split time put me in 21st. I lost 9 seconds in that cock up. I made time up at the bottom, only 2 seconds off qualifying and still 9 seconds off 14th place.
I was really deflated as this was the first time I hadn’t qualified. To be so close was painful and it was even more painful watching it. I found it really hard without the amazing support of my team backing me, making sure I was eating properly and frequently, making sure the bike was prepped and making sure the bike was set up well. I love having my team behind me. Although I had fantastic support from Fionn Griffiths (griffithsracing.net)!
Thanks to those who helped me get to Canada, particularly those who donated money, to Tracy Moseley (tracymoseley.com), my sister Nicola Donnelly, Jo Petterson and to Fionn Griffiths. Without your support I wouldn’t have got here and been able to take up on this opportunity.
Thank you all. Much love xx
